Greece has what known as Mediterranean climate most years has long warm summer & short mild winter.
But despite the country s relatively small size there are regional variations; Greece s northern mountains southern islands & central mainland having slightly different climates.
From April until November the whole country hot & dry with almost constant sunshine. In this dry season rainfall rarely more than sporadic & brief. The most pleasant weather usually May-June & September-October with the highest temperatures occurring from mid-July to mid-August. During this period temperatures average roughly 35 degrees though heatwaves can see them rise higher. At this time year the sun s rays can be very strong from 11am-4pm & s best to stay out the sun for part the day.
The remainder the year characterized by relatively cold rainy period which generally starts sometime November & lasts until late March or early April. The majority rain falls from December to April where rains on approximately third days each month. In the northern parts the country this can be quite persistent & can cause flooding. The upper parts Greece can also be very cold during the winter & snow not uncommon.
Summer Greece s peak tourist season but the off-season from November through February has its attractions. Visitors from cooler climates can find this rewarding time to see the country especially its driest parts the southern Aegean & parts the southeastern mainland. Sun isn t guaranteed but the fall temperatures will be mirrored by drops prices & crowds.
